The neighborly choice for excellent weed control

farmers shaking hands

For farmers, good neighbors share more than property lines. Their lives are shaped by a common place and passion for agriculture.

A two-finger wave from the steering wheel or a nod at the coffee shop is often an unspoken gesture of solidarity: “I’ve got your back, and I know you have mine.” In rural communities, neighbors support each other like family — and they sometimes are — making them quick to share a tool or lend a helping hand.

So, it’s no surprise that good neighbors want what’s best for their farm while considering how it impacts those around them. That attitude has helped make the Enlist® weed control system the No. 1-selling soybean technology in the United States.

Farmers trust Enlist One® herbicide as the neighbor-friendly choice because it delivers excellent weed control with applications that stay on target and out of neighboring fields.

Neighborly by design

On-target herbicide applications make for neighbor-friendly weed control. No one wants an uninvited herbicide “guest” in their field. But not all herbicides are created equally: Some are more prone to off-target movement due to formulations and inherent properties, while other herbicides are made to stay where they are sprayed.

Enlist One herbicide is designed, tested and proven to land on target, thanks to a unique formulation of 2,4-D choline and Colex-D® technology. This technology reduces driftable fines, or the small droplets more likely to physically drift off target during application. With fewer driftable fines, Enlist One herbicide stays where it’s applied — in your fields and away from neighboring fields.

Another reason for Enlist One herbicide being the neighborly choice is its inherent near-zero volatility. Volatility is herbicide movement after application – potentially hours after it’s sprayed. With Enlist One, volatility is reduced by 96% compared to 2,4-D ester. By comparison, dicamba is 236 times more volatile than 2,4-D in an acid-to-acid comparison. This is one reason for a major difference in label requirements: Dicamba applications require both a volatility reduction agent and drift reduction agent, while Enlist One herbicide does not require either.

When applying Enlist One herbicide according to the label, growers can have confidence that applications will stay in their fields.

“From inception, Enlist One herbicide was designed to provide neighbor-friendly weed control that lands and stays on target, and farmers have proven that true over and over again,” said Eric Scherder, Ph.D., Corteva Agriscience U.S. Crop Protection Technical Lead. “Our customers have applied Enlist One herbicide on millions of acres over the last decade and demonstrated that the reduced physical drift and near-zero volatility help growers make conscientious, careful applications.”

Keeping herbicides on your side of the fence is only part of the equation. Excellent weed control also plays a critical role in neighbor-friendly weed management. When you control weeds on your farm, it keeps weed seed from multiplying and spreading to other fields. Your neighbors will thank you.

Good weed control also mitigates the development of herbicide resistance, benefiting farmers throughout communities and across the United States. When farmers work together to slow herbicide resistance by controlling weeds, it’s a win for U.S. agriculture. With the Enlist weed control system and Enlist One herbicide, growers have access to more than 1,700 tank-mix partners to help control tough weeds — all in a neighbor-friendly application system.

“Every farmer has a role to play when it comes to weed seedbank reduction and herbicide resistance management, and the Enlist weed control system gives you better tools to keep fields clean and help manage these issues,” Scherder said. “When a farming community collectively gets better weed control, the benefits compound one upon another and slows the spread of herbicide-resistant weeds.”

Farmers weigh in

The Enlist ® weed control system has become America’s preferred choice — the No. 1 soybean herbicide trait – for unrivaled control of the toughest weeds, including Palmer amaranth, waterhemp and giant ragweed. Farmers across the United States have adopted to the Enlist system for effective weed control and confidence that comes with a herbicide that delivers neighbor-friendly applications.

South Dakota farmer Austin Handel switched to the Enlist weed control system after experiencing drift issues with dicamba. He wanted to avoid impacting his neighbors, and his breaking point came after a dicamba application moved significantly off target.

“With the dicamba system, we experienced upset neighbors, and what ended my use of dicamba was when it damaged my wife’s garden pretty bad,” Handel said. “It was more than 100 yards away from the field, and we really shouldn’t be using technology that can cause damage that far away.”

Handel found success with Enlist One herbicide, which stayed on target and gave him the tank-mix flexibility needed to control heavy kochia pressure.

“We had carpets of kochia I would call it, and when we came back with Enlist One plus glufosinate, it knocked them out — and that was the end of them,” Handel said. “With the Enlist system, you get really good coverage, and you are hitting that weed with multiple modes of action, and it fries them.”

Arkansas producer Ramey Stiles also chose the Enlist weed control system for excellent weed control and on-target applications. He said Enlist One herbicide gives him greater peace of mind because he doesn’t have to worry that his applications will “walk off” into a neighboring field.

“We get good weed control with Enlist One, and the fact that we can apply it without having to worry about off-target movement is important to me,” Stiles said. “There’s a peace of mind knowing the product stays in the field. What I put on my fields I want to stay there, and I think if a person sets an example like that, then their neighbors will do the same and be responsible in what they do.”

Farmers like Handel and Stiles lead by example, farming in a way that’s good for their operations and their neighbors. People say fences make good neighbors, and that’s still true — but the right herbicide system can make good neighbors even better. When it comes to your herbicide program, choose the Enlist weed control system for clean fields and applications that stay on your side of the fence.
