Farming is in my blood. I’ve been farming for more than 40 years. My youngest son recently joined the operation and is carrying on the tradition. We grow corn and wheat and run a cow-calf operation. This is our second year using the Enlist™ weed control system on our farm. As farmers, we have to constantly stay ahead. The Enlist system helps us be innovative and manage resistance issues on our farm.

No weed issues at harvest

Yields in the area have been below expectations. We harvested our Enlist corn yesterday and had a decent yield — average or a tad above. We were hoping for a great year after plenty of rain this spring, but it’s been dry since early August. We had no weed issues at harvest. I’d be hard-pressed to say there was a broadleaf weed out there.

We haven't had a good rain in a couple of weeks, but we've had good moisture this year. I turned off the water (irrigation) this morning, and we'll let nature take its course. The crop still looks good. We sprayed a miticide to control spider mites, but no fungicide this year. The Enlist corn looks good.

Nice, uniform Enlist™ corn stand in western Kansas

We've had unusually good growing conditions so far this year. In the past week, we've seen very hot and dry conditions, but we've got good soil moisture so far. I'm hoping for an above-average corn yield.

Weed-free and pleased

We applied Enlist Duo just over a week ago. It was a perfect day to spray. Our agronomist checked the field the very first part of this week and reported all of the control looked excellent.

I’m really pleased with the weed control. And there are no signs of drift or off-target movement. I’m just real pleased with the way the field looks.

Overall, weather hasn’t been too bad. Of course, we could always use a little rain. After a bit of a cool spell, it warmed up last week and helped the crops right along. The Enlist corn emergence was really, really good. Every seed came up, and stand is excellent across the field.

Wet field conditions

A couple days after planting, we had some rain. I can’t complain though because we can always use rain in western Kansas. Lately, we’ve been really cool with several nights in the 30’s. It may take the crops around here a bit to emerge due to the cool temps.

Excellent field conditions

Planting Enlist™ corn

Planting was beautiful. The conditions were excellent. [The Enlist corn] went in the ground well.

We need new products such as Enlist to stay ahead in farming. We’ve seen what happens when weeds become resistant. And the resistance issues have gotten considerably worse over the last four to five years.
